Finally, I finished my scrap quilt, based on the Scrapper's Delight quilt from the book, Sunday Morning Quilts, by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison.
I was supposed to make quarter log cabin blocks, which would have meant that I sewed two "logs" around the center grey square. I suppose I got carried away or distracted, because I ended up sewing three logs.
This was a great scrap buster, and I can see this quilt being a great nap quilt, which is important! In an effort to get this quilt finished, I tried something new. Notice the machine stitched binding...of which I have mixed feelings. Finishing a quilt by stitching the binding by hand is one of my favorite parts. This is usually done while watching a movie with the family, so maybe that's why I like it. The slow, methodic stitching is calming and allows me time to think about the recipient...or not think at all. This time, I did a zig zag stitch. It was fast and functional...but just not the same.
See how the binding is wavy? It settled down after washing and drying it, but I must have been dragging that big quilt as I zigzagged my way to the finish.
Here's a glimpse of my next project...a quilt for my husband.
I thought I had enough 2.5" strips, but I was wrong. So now I have a quilt puzzle to solve: how to turn strips and scraps into a finished quilt.
These are the puzzle pieces. Today I get to play!
This quilt is gorgeous! The colors are so bright and happy. The black and white binding is the perfect choice. I am visiting from Crazy Mom Quilts. I put a link to your blog on mine, so I can follow your progress. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Tanya!!
DeleteYour quilt looks super cute. I sometimes have a ripple when I do machine binding. I wondered if it was just me. I would have a hard time sleeping under this, because I would want to look at all the different fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jasmine! Do you do a straight stitch when you finish your quilt binding by machine, or do you do something else? I'm going to try it again, once I get my husband's quilt ready to bind. I'll post pics of the progress.
