First Quilt

This blog is hosting a showing of our first quilt ever made and our most recent finish. Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew brought my attention to it.

My first "official" quilt was made when I was in college. It was probably 1988 or '89. I saw the design in a magazine, maybe Better Homes and Gardens. Each stupid square was cut with scissors..no strip piecing, no rotary cutters, no flannel design board-just scissors and squares. I then made my dad a quilt with the remaining squares that ended up being a lap quilt...literally. It was long but not wide because I flamed out! It fit his lap perfectly as he sat in his recliner watching t.v. or reading. Mom just recently made him give it up because it had gotten so ratty.
In the meantime, my first quilt is stuffed in my son's closet only taking up space. After I finished these projects (20 years ago), I SWORE I would never make another quilt again! I HATED it...almost as much as I hated to sew clothes.

Oh, thank goodness for rotary cutters!
